Interview with DD Artist: Shauna Seligman

Shauna is a tattoo artist out of Fresno, CA. She started working with Delicious Drips when she met us at the Vinyl Toy Network winter show in December. Her first pieces made their debut at Live or DIY where they were promptly sold at the opening reception. We sat down with Shauna to get her take on the DIY revolution.

1. When someone asks you what a custom vinyl toy is, how do you go about explaining it to them?
They aren’t sex toys, you filthy minded human beings!

2. What was the first toy that you ever designed and how’d it turn out?

Her first piece done for Live or DIY

Post-apocalyptic monkey was my first toy. When it was finished, I knew I was in love with these little plastic bastards.

3. What are you top 3 favorite art supplies ?

1. Sculpey
2. Resin
3. Sharpies ( especially olive drab colored)

4. What does your work space look like?

I do most of the work in between tattoos, so most things are done at work.

5. Do you try to evoke a feeling out of your work? What would it be?

I think it is impossible to not evoke some sort of feeling in any work. I don’t personally go for a specific feeling, but everyone who views the piece uses their personal life experiences to evoke some sort of feeling from the piece. The fact that people feel anything whether it is good or bad from my work is all I could ask for.

Shauna’s tattoo background is a fairly common for a lot of the most successful toy designers. It must be something to do with those steady hands carving on people that makes working on a toy comparably easy. Expect to see more of Shauna’s work at future Delicious Drips shows.
