That Lucky ORANGE RAT!! Smokin’ his way to 2000 points
What’s up everyone! Well our first contest is over. After several weeks of solid entries, we were happy to see that several people even sold their pieces out of our submissions gallery. Really good news.
With no further adieu, we present the winner of the first round contest in the submission gallery, Phil Newman. Phil had seven entries to secure his 16″ Qee Bear.

For those artists that participated, big thanks and we hope you keep it up. With the SkullyBoom SB1 dropping this holiday, we’re confident that we’ll be bringing much more traffic to Delicious Drips. Just to keep things interesting, we’re going to be giving away one 3 DIY Skullys to the artists with the most votes on their submission by FRIDAY July 3rd so get some new work up in the SUBMISSION GALLERY. Remember, one of the best ways artists can even help each other on this site is just voting for eachothers pieces. May the best piece win.
Here are some words from our winner
First I just want to say thanks to deliciousdrips.com for making the website, hosting the contest and giving us vinyl fans a place to display our work, the site is put together really well, easy to operate and the staff being customizers them selfs are just plain top notch, they really care about the integrity of the site, making sure everyone feels welcome by commenting on pieces, voting themselves, and being quick to respond to any questions you have. so bravo to you guys!
DD: What was your strategy to winning the contest?
Luckyorangerat: My strategy was to promote the heck out of myself and the site,. with amazing artists like Cody Phillips, Tyler Cody and MeSmithy already having some of their phenominal art up on the site I knew i had to work hard and work fast, so I pulled on all the resources I had at hand,. sending out a mass text message, emails, a few phone calls, our company website (newskooltattoos.net ((shameless plug)) social network websites (myspace.com/Luckyorangerat((shameless plug #2)) handed out 1/4 sheet flyers at work with detailed instructions on how to vote, these same flyers were handed out by our company street team. I had a few local bands post it on thier websites, and I even called some friends who posted it on thier internet gaming forums. All in all it was not an easy task, but again, with the amount of shear talent that deliciousdrips.com is showcasing, my only chance was to promote and get as much word out as possible.
DD: What method of promoting yourself works best for you?
Luckyorangerat: Support,. its not really a promotional method i guess,. but if you dont have a loyal base of people who will help get word out for you its really hard to be successful. I could hand out flyers all day long and never reach the different sub cultures that some of my loyal friends and supporters belong too. It surely wasn’t that i was “better” than any of the other artists,. it was the help of the people around me who have always supported my art that gave me the chance.and they did this by making sure everyone they knew visited the site and voted,. and for that support I appreciate each and every person who voted for me and the other amazing artists on the site. So thanks ! and keep checking deliciousdrips.com!
DD: Can you provide us with some background on yourself?
Luckyorangerat: background on myself? well. I’m a professional tattoo artist from Detroit. I’ve been straight edge my entire life, I have never tasted a beer, cigarette, weed, pills, nothing,.. art is my outlet,. I just recently discovered the custom toy addiction, I bought everyone at the shop a mini munny for a christmas stocking stuffer and as soon as we all all started customizing them,. one of my artists came out and said,. “this is going to be bad,..this is going to be real bad” and about 3 months later and about 3 cases of minis, regulars, and munny mobiles i knew what he meant.
What tips would you have for other aspiring toy artists?
As for anything artistic, seek out people whos work you like and ask questions, some of the larger name customizers may be too busy to field questions but it doesnt hurt to ask,. youd be suprised though at how flattered people can be when you ask thier advice on how to do a technique that you feel they accomplished. Im still new and “aspiring” to customizing toys myself!
