Sketch concept for Studio122 Gallery

The Urban Candy show at Studio122 Gallery is in just over a month.  DLi$h is preparing three large pieces themed on the birth of his trademark Mystery Monster.  The pieces will unite robotic elements along with organic features to make a unique juxtaposition.  Much in the same way that the monsters of the sci-fi movie Aliens were a highly developed lifecycle, DLi$h intents do recreate a similar type of fictional specie within his art.

The other new element DLi$h is incorporating to his robotics is a feminine element.  By working sassy curvature and smooth lines into these hunks of metal, the robot can effectively be softened and in a lot of ways, humanized.

The backgrounds are inspired from photographs of Tokyo during the aftermath of World War II.  Its suggested that the radiation emissions are one of teh key elements to spawning the Mysterious Monsters.  The background are done entirely freehand using acrylics.  They are layered in this order:

1) Gradient using Burnt Sienna, Raw Sienna, with Black/White

2) Clouds with Gray, white, and Raw Sienna

3) Buildings are done by mixing gray with very little amounts of Raw Sienna.  The corners of the buildings are done w/ a glaze or Burnt Sienna to give the overall dirty appearance.

4) The main element of each painting is done with oil…. as you will see.
