MeSmithy Wins Round 2 with Vinyl x Leather

Thanks to everyone that came out with a submission in this round.
This weeks winner of the 8″ Qee Bear is MeSmithy with her Stitch the Lion entry.
Me Smithy was also gracious enough to provide us with a very nice detailed description of how she created her piece. We really encourage artists to share there methods. It helps people who are just getting into toy customization and also allows experienced artists to try new techniques.
Description: Stitch the Lion started as a mini munny exchange I did with my
friends. Each person had to submit a list of 5 things they would like
to see in a munny. The list I received had the colors red, black, and
white, plus fire, leather, and a few other descriptions that I didn’t
end up using. Having quite a bit of experience using leather (and a
big box of scrap), I decided to go with that. I thought I would make a
black leather figure with red and white accents. Wanting to
incorporate fire, I figured a lion with a fiery mane would be a good
solution.
Tactic: When applying the leather I started with the red belly. I
put the glue in the center of the leather piece but leave the edges
dry, then place it on the form. When the whole piece is covered in
leather its time to stitch! Since the edges of all the leather have
been left up they are much
easier to sew together. Truth is, there is no fast way around this
process; its not hard, but its time consuming. I just enjoy it. The
mane was made of craft yarn and each piece was glued individually -_-
I had a lot of fun with this teqnuqie and I have already started
another stitched leather project (its a 10″ Labbit!) Look for it at
Lift’s ‘Multiple Personalities’ show this May!
2nd place goes to Osiron Orion with his Qee Bear entree which was a gift designed for Spanky Stokes. We really like his candy metallic coat mixed with complex sections. Quite a nice piece of art.

Third place in this contest goes to Jeff De Santis with his Bax Bear entry.

Artist Name: BleedingEdges
Title: Sin Amor el Luchador
Description: Sin Amor became discouraged just going through life
as a regular bear, so one day he decided that he wanted to shave off
his fur and move to Mexico. Mainly for the Lucha Libre wrestling, but
also for the amazing food and beautiful women. Now he wrestles every
night and has never been happier.
Tactic: Mainly done using spray paint and making stencils out of
blue painter’s tape. The detail and tattoos were hand drawn with a
sharpie. The accompanying illustration was done in Illustrator.
Website: http://bleedingedges.net
Sales Info: Maybe, he’s currently living at a gallery. If he
doesn’t get adopted there, I’d consider it.
Send in your entries for the next round where we’ll be handing out another DIY MadL figure. submissions@deliciousdrips.com
